In order to provide better service to our customers and the San Francisco Bay Area, Sause Bros. is expanding and opening an office at Terminal 3 in Richmond, California.  This facility allows Sause Bros. closer access to our customers and provides the dock space necessary to keep our equipment maintained to the highest level.

This position works in close cooperation with the Port Captain’s office for operational requirements and vessel availability. The Port Engineer San Francisco Bay Area is responsible for maintaining the vessel and fleet by inspection, shore side communication, and assistance and troubleshooting with Chief Engineers, Assistant Engineers and Oilers while on voyage, in Port or on drydock. This position schedules and directs periodic boat safety and operational inspections and the work being performed by shoreside personnel in accordance with the Safety Management System to assure each vessel is in the best possible condition relative to safety and performance. There is close cooperation with the Port Captain’s Office in pre-employment screening, crew assignment, evaluating and skill training to develop engine room personnel along with the Port Management Team in the planning of maintenance of Sause Bros. Vessels.


Requirements

  1. Assists the Area Port Captain’s Office in evaluating applicants for engine room vacancies.
  2. Assigns, directs, and schedules day-to-day work to be performed by shoreside personnel and reviews and assigns work that can be performed while in-service.
  3. Recommends to the Area Port Captain’s Office crew assignments and assists in evaluation of engine room personnel on boats for each scheduled voyage.
  4. Directs and implements safety and operational policies as outlined by the Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure compliance with shipyard standards and State and Federal regulations for shoreside personnel, tug crews, and outside contractors.
  5. Conduct operational safety inspections on board vessels as assigned or needed in Port and underway, including vessel logs and physical plant, and review findings with Port Management Team at operations meetings.
  6. Maintain up to date records as outlined in the Management and Administration Manual and machinery preventative maintenance schedules relating to work lists and work accomplished on each vessel using the computer based maintenance system.
  7. Monitor water and lube oil samples and maintain report files for each vessel in the fleet.
  8. Evaluates engine room personnel and operating machinery.
  9. Direct all repairs and modifications at the home port and office facilities.
  10. Assist company management in developing and delivering annual training programs for engine room personnel and shoreside maintenance personnel.
  11. Review all Daily Log Sheets, Machinery Reports, and Work Requests before records are updated. Periodically review vessels, maintenance schedules, and the physical inventory on board each vessel and assure proper quantity, condition, and suitability. Report findings to Port Management at operations meetings.
  12. Review, recommend, and draft revisions to the Towing Vessel Machinery Operating Procedure and Bulletins Manual for the Port Management Team.
  13. Distribute equipment maintenance bulletins and repair manuals to engine room personnel as received from manufacturing representatives.
  14. Supervise repair projects and towboat personnel as requested by Senior Port Engineer.
  15. Purchase and deliver repair parts to out Ports as requested or required.
  16. Review all company Safety Management System (SMS) policies, procedures, and revisions annually or prior to implementing and circulate information to engine room personnel to ensure compliance.
  17. Direct the purchasing of routine supplies required for maintenance crews and other equipment as directed by the Port Management Team in addition to reviewing and approving machinery want lists for mechanical supplies as they are requested by crewmembers for the supply department.

Knowledge of propulsion, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, piping, gearing systems, welding and fabrication is essential. Strong written and verbal skills are required. Incumbent will have completed a degree program from a Maritime Academy or equivalent education and/or professional experience on board particular vessels. Incumbent shall also be well acquainted with shipyard repair procedures and capable of performing the duties of a ship repair superintendant, or as approved by the President.
