Pioneer Mariner Capt. Sufi M Ashraful Islam no more

With a heavy heart, we inform all mariners about the passing away of our Pioneer Mariner Capt. Sufi M Ashraful Islam. He breathed his last on the morning of 15th July in Dhaka. Inna lillahe wa inna ilaihe rajeun.

He was buried in Banani Graveyard the same day. He was the batch mate of Captain QABM Rahman and Chief Engineer Zahedur Rahman (2nd UK batch) at the HMS Conway. he was a Cadet Captain and top of the class in studies and sports.

In 1952, he was 1 of the 5 Cadets that had been selected from the-then East Pakistan by Pakistan Public Service Commission (PSC 2nd Batch).

Upon completion of his Pre-Sea Training in HMS Conway, he joined British-India Shipping as a Deck Cadet. He served aboard various Pakistani and Bangladeshi vessels. Upon returning ashore, he served in IWTA, PRS, MMD, Mongla port, CPA and last as D.G shipping, Bangladesh

His younger brother MarEngr. Sufi M Aminul Islam (5E) passed away on 27th November 2018. Aminul Islam suffered from Perkinsons disease.

For the last 7 years, he with his wife were staying in Dhaka in his flat in the cantonment area.

His contributions to the Bangladesh mariners community will be remembered dearly.
