MarEngr. Md. Mahbubul Alam Ala (13/557E) on his final voyage

MarEngr. Mahbubul Alam [ex-Marine 13 & ex-FCC 22] has expired yesterday (6 Dec 2018) at 8 PM at United Hospital, Dhaka, after being in life support since 25th November, following a massive stroke. May Allah bless his soul in peace.

His namaj-e-janaja will be held today after Jumma Prayer. Doa will also be held at Academy Mosque.

Upon completing his initial maritime education in our Academy (nearly 4 years including a sea-voyage to UK-Europe in 1978/79), he had completed MBA course in IBA Dhaka University. Since then he served in Banks. Although being away from Marine profession, he was close to his mates of 13th Batch. [Sources: Ex-Cadets of 13th batch]

Mahbubul Alam was one of the first few Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA’s) in Bangladesh. He went for it when he was posted in Kuwait by National Bank. During his CFA exams, he faced the Kuwait war, fleeing back home only to face a hurricane/flood. Took his final exams and qualified under very adverse conditions.

He is also an MBA from IBA, DU.

And a Marine Engineer prior to that.

From National Bank Mahbubul Alam moved to Standard Chartered Bank as its CFO. Handled the merger of SCB and Grindlays Bank. Then he moved on to handle the merger of 2 multinational cement companies on a 2 year contract. Later he was the MD of a leasing company from where he took an early retirement. Then started spending his time learning guitar, and he was good at it. Yoga and swimming. And his passion, homeopathy. He was a very good homeopath, practiced free of cost with free medicine.

He was a good soul loved by all who came in contact with his cheerful ever smiling nature. We lost a very good friend. May Allah SWT grant him eternal peace in Jannatul Ferdous. Ameen.

OBITUARY TO ALA –

আলা..

তুইও চলে গেলি তাহলে, যাবিইতো।

আগে যারা গেল, তাদের ডাক শুনেছিস।

আমাদের কি আর সাধ্য আছে  তাদের গলা টিপে ধরি !

কিম্বা তোরে বন্দি করে রাখি !

অক্ষম ভাইটার কাতর  চোখের চাহনী তোর মন গলালোনা,

বোনগুলো-  যাদের কাছে তুই  পিতৃতুল্য,

তাদের শত অনুরোধ তোকে রুখতে পারলোনা,

যাবিইত।

আমরাত কেবল বন্ধুমাত্র-

দূঃখ- সুখের সামান্য ভাগীদার।

আমাদেরকে কি আর পরোয়া করিস।

যা,  যাদের ডাকে এত মধু, ওদের কাছে যা।

ওখানে গিয়ে মৌজ ফুর্তি কর।

এখানে যে  গীটারটা রেখে গেলি !

ওটা এখন কি সুন্দর- একদম তকতকে ঝকঝকে-

সো-কেজ বন্দি হয়ে থাকবে,

শুধু টিউনটা হারিয়ে ফেলেছে।

কোন সুর আর বাজেনা।

যারা আড্ডা দিতে আসতো

ওরাতো আর আসবেনা।

তোকে আর ইতিহাসের গল্প শুনতে হবেনা।

রাজনীতির ইতিকথা ভাবতে হবেনা,

অর্থনীতির চুলচেরা বিশ্লেযণ করে মাথা ঘামানো থেকে

চিরতরে মাফ পেয়ে গেলি।

বকবক করে কথার পর কথা সাজাতে হবেনা।

আড্ডার আসরের বক্তা হবার কৌশিস করতে হবেনা।

হাঁরে, ওখানে কি চায়ে বিস্কুট চুবায়ে খাওয়ার রেওয়াজ আছেরে !

হা হা করে উচ্চস্বরে হাসা যায় !

খালি গায়ে, হাফ প্যান্ট পরে বুড়ো লোকজন সারা ঘরময় হাটাচলা করে !

শুক্রবারের বিকেলের আসর তুই ওখানেই দিস।

এখানে চেয়ার, টেবিল, খাট বিছানা সবকিছুই

তোর ব্যবহারে আগোছালো হওয়ার প্রতীক্ষায় থাকবে কিছুদিন ।

ওই যে কবি কবি চেহারার মেয়েটা-

যে কিনা হোমিওপ্যাথ নেয়ার বাহানায় মাঝে মাঝে আসত-

সে এখন কোথায় যাবে !

কার সাধ্য আছে তোকে টেনে ধরার।

যা, তোকে বিদায় দিয়ে দিলাম।

ভাল থাকিস আলা,  ভাল থাকিস, বিদায় বন্ধু, বিদায় ।

   I am saddened and, very sorry to learn about Mahbub’s untimely passing away from amongst us.

   Although it has been more than 25 years since I last met him, but I still recall his sharp humorous comments and, of course his smile. Looking at his profile photo above he does seem to have changed much.

   Bilash has of course put it very well about Mahbub in his tribute with a nice poem. There is not much for me to add.

   My condolences to his family.

   May God bless his soul and, keep him in His Grace.
